They're just some of the misfits that inhabit Brown Bird, the new album by Brisbane's best kept secret MEXICO CITY.

Coming three years after the release of debut album (2006's critically applauded Black Comedy), Brown Birdfinds the four-piece simultaneously refining and expanding on the template set down by the previous record.

The band said goodbye to longstanding member Mick Elliot, who was eventually replaced by Matt Tanner (GIANTS OF SCIENCE, MARY TREMBLES). They also big farewell to their first record label, to start anew with Brisbane's Plus One Records (GIN CLUB, BLACKWATER FEVER, TEXAS TEA).

That's right! Everyone's favourite early noughties throwbacks GIANTS OF SCIENCE are back to strike fear into the hearts of purveyors of false intelligent hard rock everywhere! They are playing the Troubadour, Brisbane on Friday 17th of April and head to Sydney the following day to headline the Annandale Hotel's Tomorrow People mini festival on the 18th of April and then to Melbourne Sunday April 19 for a show at The Tote.

KEEP IT LIKE A SECRET

Giants of Science are one of Australia's best kept musical secrets. Their patented combination of vicious intelligent hard rock, black humour & questionable fashion sense saw them garner supports for bands such as Radio Birdman, McClusky, MC3DKT, The Bellrays, Black Flag, A Perfect Circle, JSBX, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Powderfinger, Screamfeeder,Tumbleweed, Front End Loader, You Am I, and many others. TThey released two albums and two EPs up till 2007, toured Canada and Vanuatu, played the Big Day Out and Livid festivals, and a good deal of rum was on board throughout.

The Giants have have been on extended leave for two years whilst various members travelled to Europe, dossed about and worked as escorts in the Middle East. However the original line up of Ben Salter (vocals/guitar) Steven Lynagh (drums) Benjamin Tuite (guitar) and Matt Tanner (bass) is back, match fit, older, stupider, working on some new songs, and set to play a few shows before commencing work on their third full length album, tentatively entitled The Suburban Durban Bourbon Turban, due for release early 2010.

Inimitable Alt-country rock troupe The Gin Club are embarking on an East Coast tour of Australia in March and April, before heading off to Europe to tour and continue recording the follow up to their epic 2-disc 2008 release Junk.

Junk was received with critical and public acclaim, reaching the top 10 on the AIR charts and granting the eclectic Brisbane-based band accolades including ‘Best Rock Song, ‘Best Folk Ballad’ and ‘Song of the Year’ at “Q Song” - Queensland Music Industry Awards in 2008.

Now, on the back of a successful string of 2008 gigs both here and in the US (including appearances at Musicexpo (LA), Gympie Music Muster, Woodford Folk Festival and The Big Day Out), The Gin Club are ready to hit the road, complete with brand new songs to unleash on anticipative audiences.

The band will be performing favourite singles like 'Ten Paces Away’, 'Drugflowers' and 'Wylde Bitch', new singles ‘Days’ and ‘You Me & The Sea’ as well as giving punters a sneak-peak at some brand new material expected to be included in their next release.

This will be the last opportunity for established fans and the not-yet-enlightened to catch one of the most intriguing bands of recent memory before they head to Europe to continue work on the follow up to Junk, which commenced last year and includes a collaboration with Weddings, Parties, Anything’s Mick Thomas.

Front man Ben Salter said “After our busiest and most successful 12 months yet, we're hoping our fans both old and new can come and give the Club a triumphant send off before we embark on adventures over the sea”.

Texas Tea are a two piece alt-country act from Brisbane, Australia.

Texas Tea's debut album, Take A Sip, featured heavily on radio from its release in 2006, including ABC, Triple R, PBS, Triple J, 4ZzZ. In 2006 and 2007 Texas Tea took out the Hot 100 on Brisbanes 4ZzZfm with tracks 'Macy and Me' and 'Whiskey and Wine'. These tracks also featured as finalists in the Q Music Awards and in 2007 APRA Songwriters Award. Tracks from Take A Sip have been used in several film projects including a film by Tropfest Winning Director Steve Baker and more recently in feature film Savages Crossing.

Their second long player 'The Junkship Recordings' is set to cement Texas Teas place in the country and alternative music scene in Australia. The album was recorded over the last year in several late night sessions at Junkship Studios with producer and engineer Jamie Trevaskis. Stand out tracks on the album include; 'Billy' - a rollicky lament of loss, 'Cane Farmer's Song' - a sinister spiritual prayer for rain and 'The Ferry Song' - a tragic story of a relationship slowly drowning.

A typical Texas Tea show will include a curious blend of live instrumentation with a combination of guitars and percussion played by foot. Kate and Ben are dual songwriters for the band. Their sound is lyrically driven and has been described as "uniquely Brisbane".

Texas Tea have been compared to such artists as Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, Tom Waits, Lucinda Williams, Neko Case, Mazzy Starr, Carter and Cash, Townes Van Zandt and Leonard Cohen and they have shared the stage with Cold War Kids (USA), Iron and Wine (USA), The Handsome Family (USA), The Mountain Goats (USA), Jeff Lang, The Darling Downs (Kim Salmon and Ron Peno), Art of Fighting, The Devastations and many other fine acts.

Texas Tea have toured all over the East Coast of Australia and also overseas in Germany, Netherlands and France where they have strong support.

ALERT: Intercooler - they're back (for the time being)!

They’ve long been one of this town’s most loved bands, but things have been rather quiet of late for local lads Intercooler. With band’s members launching into some new side projects and traveling overseas, they’ve spent the past year spread as far a field as Melbourne, New York and Paris.

But over the next couple of months Intercooler will team up once more for a rare run of shows around Brisbane and South East Queensland.

They will head up the coast for an O-Week show at the Sunshine Coast University on February 20: hit the stage supporting Tame Impala at The Zoo of February 27; and rock the Powerhouse for a special all-ages event on March 8 with Numbers Radio.

So be sure to catch them while you can, it may not be the last time, but it may be a long time.

Black Mustang to Headline an Australia Day Eve Show at The QUT Guild Bar January 25th

Following a very productive year in 2008, Black Mustang has hit the ground running in 2009. With the release of their debut long player “Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea” in October 08 and several Sync deals with Australian and USA Television throughout the year, Black Mustang are set to kick 2009 off right were they left it for the festive break.

Their first show for the year on January 25th at The QUT Guild bar (gardens point), will see Black Mustang headline the stellar line up. Black Mustang is set to share the stage with, Enola Fall (Tas), Smokestack Orchestra, Riannon Hart & Linc le Fevre (Tas). Tickets are $10 at the door. As it will coincide with The Hear and now festival it should be quite the after party.

THE GIN CLUB Leave Their Mark on 2008

Brisbane songwriting collective The Gin Club continues to cement a place as one of Australia's most respected bands with their stunning double album Junk finding its way into numerous 'Best of 2008' polls.

The record was named by Time Off Magazine as the #2 Best Album of the Year while the magazine also put the band in the number two spot on its Artist of the Year list.

Meanwhile respected Courier-Mail writer Noel Mengel placed Junk is his list of the best ten albums released this year and the track 'You Me and the Sea' as the number two song of 2008- at its time of release, Mengel described the album as an "embarrassment of riches".

On the live front, The Australian newspaper described the band as a must see at this year's Woodford Folk Festival.

The recognition caps of a huge 2008 for the band which saw them tour relentlessly, support the likes of The Drones and Band of Horses; and pick up a swag of prizes at the annual Q Song Awards.

Texas Tea are a two piece alt-country act from Brisbane, Australia.

Texas Teas debut album, Take A Sip, featured heavily on radio from its release in 2006, including ABC, Triple R, PBS, Triple J, 4ZZZ. In 2006 and 2007 Texas Tea took out the Hot 100 on Brisbanes 4ZzZfm with tracks 'Macy and Me' and 'Whiskey and Wine'. These tracks also featured as finalists in the Q Music Awards and in 2007 APRA Songwriters Award. Tracks from Take A Sip have been used in several film projects including a film by Tropfest Winning Director Steve Baker and more recently in feature film Savages Crossing.

Their second long player 'The Junkship Recordings' is set to cement Texas Teas place in the country and alternative music scene in Australia. The album was recorded over the last year in several late night sessions at Junkship Studios with producer and engineer Jamie Trevaskis. Stand out tracks on the album include; 'Billy' - a rollicky lament of loss, 'The Cane Farmer's Song' - a sinister spiritual prayer for rain and 'The Ferry Song' - a tragic story of a relationship slowly drowning.

A typical Texas Tea show will include a curious blend of live instrumentation with a combination of guitars and percussion played by foot. Kate and Ben are dual songwriters for the band. Their sound is lyrically driven and has been described as "uniquely Brisbane".

Texas Tea have been compared to such artists as Gill ian Welch and David Rawlings, Lucinda Williams, Neko Case, Mazzy Starr, Carter and Cash, Townes Van Zandt and Leonard Cohen and they have shared the stage with Iron and Wine (USA), The Handsome Family (USA), The Mountain Goats (USA), Jeff Lang, The Darling Downs (Kim Salmon and Ron Peno), Art of Fighting, The Devastations and many other fine acts.

Texas Tea have toured all over the East Coast of Australia and also overseas in Germany, Netherlands and France where they have strong support.

Flying the flag for the new generation of rock’n’roll kids, Black Mustang have just released release their debut LP, “Between the devil and the Deep Blue Sea” and will be heading up & down the east coast of Australia to promote the release.

Recorded at Brisbane’s BlackBox Studios, engineered & Co Produced by Jeff Lovejoy, “Between the Devil & the deep blue sea” is one of 2008’s most highly anticipated Indie rock releases.

The release follows a run of east coast shows supporting some of Australia’s front runners, British India, Celibate Rifles, the Fumes, 67 Special and The Exploders amongst others. Black Mustang took time out in early 2008 to focus on writing and rehearsing tracks for their new album, which see’s the band progress to a darker and more mature sound while maintaining their instinctive pop sensibilities from their self titled 2007 release.

The recording, which garnered devoted fans from all corners of the globe quickly became a buzz release amongst local stations 4ZzZ, FBI, RRR, Nova & Triple J. With tracks off the new album having already been lifted for major worldwide licensing deals throughout USA and Australia, “Between the Devil & The Deep Blue Sea” is set to accelerate the momentum built from their debut release.
