Mexico City picked up the Courier Mail People's Choice Award at the QSong Awards on Tuesday night.

The year's half over and Plus One bands have their noses to the grindstone, cranking out shows and songs from here to the other side of the globe.

Texas Tea are on tour in France, Gin Club's Ben Salter has been stretching his legs across Europe and playing a few shows while he's at it. Blackwater Fever and Black Mustang are about to head to the west coast to hit some stages with The Devil Rides Out.

But the big news is the second of our showcases, focusing this time on the fantastic songwriters we've got under our wing. Held this time at Brisbane's Troubadour, it'll be The Gin Club's first show in quite a few months, Mexico City will be toning it down a touch for a more intimate set, as will The Blackwater Fever.

Fresh from depleting France's wine reserves, Texas Tea will be along to break some hearts, and latest Plus One addition, Roz Pappalardo & the Wayward Gentlemen will be showing what they can do.

All this is going down on the 8th of September, and the Troub is a small place, so get in quick for tickets. They can be found at Oztix.

West Coast friends and fiends! We've got some Plus One love heading your way in the form of gunslinging groups The Blackwater Fever and Black Mustang, teaming up with WAMi winners The Devil Rides Out for a trio of showdowns.

I know it's a few months away yet, but we have to allow for the time it'll take for the mail coach to reach the other side of the country.

Art fans in Brisbane! A couple of Plus One bands are featuring in Bleeding Heart and 4ZZZ's exhibition of local artists painting local bands. Included are Gin Club's Ben Salter, Texas Tea's kate Jacobson and The Smokestack Orchestra. The gallery is 166 Ann St in the City, and the exhibition lasts from the 15th of August 'til round about the end of the month!

MEXICO CITY
Brisbane's finest purveyors of dark country rock, Mexico City, are staying home this August to plug in and play a month-long residency at the Brisbane Powerhouse. The local four-piece are just the second act to perform under the banner of "The Residents", a new ongoing event that sees Brisbane's best indie bands hitting the Powerhouse's Turbine Platform every Friday night from 6pm.
With their second album, Brown Bird, earning accolades far and wide, Mexico City will use the month-long stint to stretch out their wings and play highlights from their latest salvo, plus some newies and old favourites from their debut album and earlier EPs. The band will also be joined by a host of guest musicians.

In addition to their Friday night residency, Mexico City will perform a special lunchtime show in Brisbane's Queen Street Mall on Friday 21 August. All of these shows are free and all ages.
