smokeThe Smokestack Orchestra is:

Scarecrow Wallace: guitar, upright electric bass, vocals
Dean Hunt: lead guitar
Skritch: Drums

Since stoking the fires of Steam Powered rocknroll at the turn of the century, The Smokestack Orchestra has been working towards their debut album Salute Heavy Industry. Sure, it’s taken a little while to get the pressure up, but now this baby’s primed and set to blow its top!

Featuring an array of tried and tested tunes from the band’s inception and a meaty selection of brand new jams, Salute… has mud in the grooves, sand in the gears and spit in your eye. Adding keyboard and double bass to their standard two guitar and drums line up, The Orchestra don’t let up, from opening track “Vincent Price” and its violent, sinister thunder, through the sultry “Tractor” (featuring Stacey Coleman from Brisbane’s own Butcher Birds on duet duties), right up to the Neolithic boogie of closer “Wordsmith”.

Arc welding the brutal southern riffs of Clutch and The Blues Explosion to the boiler room rhythms of modern Tom Waits, The Smokestack Orchestra set the whole thing on fire, bury it for a week, dig it up and kick it a few times for good measure, just in time for release in September 2008. Salute Heavy Industry comes supplied with neither safety goggles nor protective clothing. Instructions are simple: put it on, turn it up and keep well away from flammable liquids. “One of Brisbane’s musical gems.” - Time Off “The Smokestack Orchestra are all charm.” – Rave
