It’s Brisbane… It’s 2005… There’s a sound…. There are Drums, Bass, Guitar and Vocals flying off stage in the heat of a warm winter. It’s impatient, It’s fresh like walking past a bakery at 5am. It makes you smile and want to move. That’s what music is for.
Its The Little Lovers. Three young boys from Queensland, too excited to stop playing music and definitely one act to keep your ears and eyes out for.
Their debut self titled EP is like shaking hands with an interesting stranger: You can’t forget it, You want to get to know it and you will never forget the experience.
The Little Lovers are Ben – Drums, Niko – Bass, Wintah – Guitar & Vocals. Their music is heavily influenced by Brisbane and its bands; Go-Betweens, Custard, Not From There, the Melniks and Small Fantasy. Other influences include international acts Pavement, Flaming Lips, Dinosaur Jr, Jonathan Richman and Grandaddy. Little Lovers grew up in the nineties listening to JJJ, watching Recovery in the morning and going to four festivals a year.
Back then alternate Aussie music seemed more fun and accessible and a time when Brisbane bands could reach a national audience as easily as southern bands, nowadays the industry is so serious and businesslike. That my friends is where The Little Lovers come in. Designed only to have fun with you and poke fun at you. Their songs are simple and silly, whether they’re about men dressed as the devil or parodying the fashion bands of the time. The Little Lovers are always up for anything as long as it’s not too serious.
Now, there’s not many places to go or things to do in Brisbane. So venues are limited, but The Little Lovers have graced nearly all of them supporting such great act; The Grates, Dave McCormack and the Polariods, The Zebras, The Gin Club, Screamfeeder and Peabody. Although The Little Lovers seem a little awkward on stage they always manage to win over the crowds, with their catchy songs and fearless attitude to try something different.
With a new EP out now on busier than ever Brisbane label Plus One Records and distributed by Reverberation Distribution, The Little Lovers are here to take over your world( or at least control your funny bone), get your hips swaying and your head shaking, they may look like geeks, but deep down aren’t we all?
